The reason that we are able to present so many unique images from local events like this one  is simply that large media doesnt have the incentive to do it and the organizations themselves usually dont have the resources to do it. Some have resources but lack the knowlege.

We are happy to help for as long as possible, but dont think the organizations we help really understand the nature of what we do so Dr. Spangler requests that the following be posted in regards to all events covered.

“Rally in the Alley”

Emerge Montgomery and United Way are partnering together to host “Rally in the Alley” Thursday, Aug. 27, beginning at 5 p.m. in downtown Montgomery’s Alley.

“Rally in the Alley” will serve as the 2009 United Way Campaign kick-off and EMERGE Montgomery’s volunteerism expo.

Clean out your closet and get a free “Rally in the Alley” T-shirt! T-shirts will be given out, while they last, to everyone who brings clothing items that are in good condition for our Goodwill clothing drive. Goodwill trucks will be located at both the Tallapoosa and Commerce street entrances to collect all clothing items upon arrival to the event.

“Rally in the Alley” also hopes to enlarge the Volunteer and Information Center database and provide volunteers for 30 nonprofit agencies. Agencies will be located throughout the Alley with booths for you to sign up for specific upcoming events with agencies such as: Rebuilding Together, Girl Scouts, Brantwood Children’s Home, Habitat for Humanity, Leadership Montgomery, Partners in Education and more.

Be the first to experience the Italian cuisine of the Alley’s newest restaurant, SaZa. Dreamland and SaZa will provide free food while the AlleyBAR, Dreamland and 129 Coosa will provide space and discounted beverages.

Live music will be provided throughout the night by Mitylene Crossing, E-funKshun and Burnt Toast.

Numerous door prizes will be given out throughout the night.

This event is free and open to the public.

Who set up early and who left early?  We know but there is no need to say, those who were there know and believe me if they know then so do others, perhaps a potential volunteer.

Carolyn Kinney and Emerge helped out alot of nonprofits yesterday and we feel ,though not required by the organizers, staying until 7 at least was the professional and courteous thing to do. There is no doubt that the Montgomery Zoo picked up some nice support by coming early, staying late and bringing a Zebra and Eagle. They kept it lively for sure.

Also working on a video as  a gift for Emerge, who although Eddie has not technicaly joined yet,  he appreciates all the cool people that he has come into contact with and recoginize the effort they are putting forth.

Amy Godsoe announced that nearly 45k was raised which is 10k more than last year.  Are we really in a recession? Should not donations go down?

Think Big Montgomery and make things happen, thats what the organizers, sponsors and participants did and look at the end result. Not only was alot of loot raised for a good cause but look at the GREAT time and community fellowship that was shared  by all in attendance.

Alabama Kidney Foundation and Montgomery are Great News.

A fundraiser for sickle cell anemia research netted sponsors about $1,000 Saturday during a “bowl-a-thon” held at the Brunswick Woodmere Lanes.

Organized by Angela Green and Rebecca Barlow, the event was the third fundraiser by the two in Montgomery in recent months.

“Our goal was to raise at least $1,000, and we’ve been able to do just that,” Green said Saturday afternoon as the event ended. “We’re very happy with the response we’ve received.”

Supporters from as far away as Auburn spent four hours at the facility. A $50 charge for a team of five bowlers drew competitors from throughout the area.

Green said funds from the bowling event, along with another activity last month, will be donated to the Sickle Cell Foundation of Greater Montgomery during Hot 105.7’s radio-thon this afternoon…end MAJ excerpt

GreatNewsMontgomery showed up about halfway through the event to find the party going on strong. Even though we have communicated for a while this  is the first time meeting Angela and Rebecca. They form the team of Brown Shades Media who  produces Happy Hour Talk, which uses a talk show format to discuss relevant community topics.

The silent auction areas were bustling as people got those last second bids in.

GreatNewsMontgomery.com picked up the Miller Lite mirror, a couple Harley-Davidson hats and a Boston Butt.

The best win was a weekend casino package at the IP in Biloxi worth

well over $400 and obtained at about 33 percent of retail

Except for the Boston Butt from Bradshaws all other items could be donated to our Community Chest.

The Great News Montgomery  Community Chest is a way for  Dr Spangler to help people who want to help others.

I know many of you were looking forward to seeing your smiling  mugs,  so start with these.

This was a very high caliber afterparty to an afternoon charity golf tournament. The after party featured  donated premium food plates  from Scott Street Sandwich Shop, entertainment by Elaine Petty and the Damn Skippy Band and a great silent auction with a multitude of items donated by local businesses and individuals. Proceeds benefiting the Montgomery Cancer Wellness Foundation
