A day of gratitude [Ream more]

GreatNewsMontgomery.com recently asked several aspiring writers to express their thoughts for an article to be published on this site. This was the best one that we received and hope that the author will be making additional contributions in the future.

A Day of Gratitude

As I was sitting back thinking of what my Mom was going to prepare for “Turkey Day” this year – the only meal of the year that can be eaten, literally guilt free – I also began thinking of the many reasons why we’ve become so fond of this Day of Thanksgiving.

I believe it’s because, along with the usual turkey, stuffing, mashed-potatoes, corn, green beans and Mom’s famous pecan pie (just to name a few of the excellent dishes prepared that day), that we also serve up hefty portions of:

Gratitude – for having a country to appreciate, a family to honor and a loving home to visit over the holidays;
Happiness – from opening our hearts in unison to family, friends and strangers alike;
Pride – not only in who we are now, but also in who we have the potential to become;
Forgiveness – towards others, because we’ve all done something that needs forgiving;
Hope – that we can all share another blessed Thanksgiving dinner together next year;
Faith – In knowing that no matter what obstacles lie before us, we have the God-given inner strength to pull through
Love – to remember that this is the greatest gift you can give mankind.

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, these positive feelings come easy, and are a huge reason why this day is so cherished and celebrated. The true test of perpetuation, however, comes after the leftovers are stored away in the refirgerator and the last china dish is returned safely to its proper place in the cupboard.

Although grateful and humbled that we can all appreciate this remarkable day – a day that brings us all closer to the Oneness that we truly are – imagine how quickly we could transform this community, this town, and even our world if we just preserved those positive attitudes in our prevalent minds and transferred them into acts of kindness in our daily lives.

So, on this 388th year of celebrating Thanksgiving, we extend an invitation to you to continue expressing these feelings of “thanksgiving-ness” for more than just one Thursday in November. Let’s see how quickly we can transform the world by sharing one genuine act of kindness at a time – and if we’re successful, we could very well be celebrating this Day of Gratitude year-round.

RSVP Magazine is for those desiring to entertain or be entertained.

They are also Great News for Montgomery!

This is a test post that may or may not stay up

Letter from the publisher of RSVP

The holidays are approaching and there is something in the air that makes the girls at RSVP Montgomery absolutely giddy! In preparing for this issue, we sat around and discussed our traditions and why we love this time of year. Whether it is the wonderful feast with family at Thanksgiving, our love for Christmas music and shopping, fun and festive Christmas parties, or celebrating the birth of our Savior, we all decided this is definitely the MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR!

Shopping is something most women love to do and we are so fortunate to have the Wynfrey Hotel and Riverchase Galleria in Birmingham. We loaded up in our cars for a girls’ getaway and in no time, determined that with the abundance of stores, it is a great place to find that perfect gift for anyone on your list. However, if you can’t make the trip to the Wynfrey Hotel and Galleria, our 12 Crazes of Christmas feature will provide you with plenty of fun holiday activities right here in our beloved river region! We had a blast reading all of the holiday traditions that were submitted by our readers and have included some of our favorites for your entertainment.

However, with all of the excitement, there are still those that struggle during the holidays due to financial difficulties or the loss of a loved one. The good news is that the human spirit has proven time and time again that when we are most challenged by life’s seemingly darkest hours we rise up and come together to help one another. Christmastime seems to be the time when we get back in touch with old friends and reach out to others that we might not reach out to during the year. We believe that giving time and love to those hurting can sometimes be the best gift of all.

We want to thank our friends and supporters of RSVP Montgomery and wish you a wonderful holiday season full of love and excitement. We would like to personally invite you to attend our Christmas Party on December 17 at the new Alley Station downtown. Check out our website for more information or to sign up for our weekly event blast with all that is hip and happening

With warm regards,

This comes from the About page at LukasCoaching.com

Lukas Coaching began in 2006 in response to an overwhelming request from our family and friends for sound financial advice. For many years prior to officially starting the business we had been coaching friends, family and members of our community.

Because the need was so strong within our community, we have decided to use our financial knowledge and experience, as well as the gifts God has provided us, to counsel others on a full-time basis. We will never turn anyone away who has a genuine need for financial coaching and is serious about making a positive change. We truly do exist to help our clients succeed!

“As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s grace.” - 1 Peter 4:10

Our programs are effective because we actually practice what we teach our clients. Each of us has been in debt and has taken the steps necessary to free ourselves. We now pass along our experiences and expertise to help you reach your goals as quickly as possible.

While most businesses measure their success based on the amount of money they make, at Lukas Coaching, we measure our success by the number of businesses we help succeed, and the number of lives we help change.

We began offering resources in the form of articles, books and even free workbooks to spread the coaching we offer around the world…end excerpt

In just a few short years Justin has developed a wealth of information for his followers and his personal services are in high demand from clients coast to coast. That is a link to testimonials from his clients.

There is a ton of free and useful stuff that Justin Lukasavige offers on the website. He and guests offer great free financial advice on Past Due Radio and the shows are archived.

His dedication to true service is recognized by GNM and the editor.

Last week started with great prospects. After a super Saturday where we were fortunate to be part of 3 Great Montgomery events including Alabama Farmers Market Day, Sicklecell Fund Bowlathon and ASF Beehive performance, came a trip on Sunday to Sams club for 4 new tires. I could see way above Lincolns head when using this Nascar.com trick to estimate tire tread remaining so a new set was needed big time.

UP- 4 new tires ready to go in less than an hour

Down

Genius Service techs at Sams club who ignored the obvious fact that my window regulator wasn’t working and decided that since my window was already open about 2 inches that it was a good idea to JAM the window down into the door, making it impossible to retrieve without removing the entire door panel. Didnt you hear a loud thud when the glass fell into the crack?, did you think there could have been a problem then?

What killed me is that the 2 workers involved acted like OH WELL should have told us,

“We roll down both front windows for any service”

Why would most people imagine that rolling down all windows was a prerequisite to a TIRE CHANGE. If anything they should have stated their unusual procedure upon check in not after the fact. They had real serious attitude issues and completely refused to even accept responsibility for their actions.

Luckily the manager Jeff happened to walk in and try and help. He and another worker did spend at least 15 minutes trying to remedy problem to no avail and offered to reimburse mechanic cost. We will report if he did indeed honor that commitment.

In the meantime I have been driving and parking with no window for over a week.

Tuesday morning July 14 the Jeep headed to Bham to get artwork. Found an artist to recreate a conceptual Montgomery skyline reflecting our perspective of Montgomery past ,present and future. The landmarks include Dexter Ave Baptist Church, ASF (Alabama Shakespeare Festival),State Capitol, Renaissance hotel,Riverwalk Stadium and the Ampitheater.

This is what it looked like at 2am Wed morning. Click picture for closeups

UP

We were really excited to show this around Montgomery on the Watermelon Express Tour.

Down-As good an artist as Erica B is vehicle paint preparation is not her forte. Poor application and preparation technique was used and even after one light rain this was the result. Hideous prep job lead to hideous outcome.

This is the Jeep by Thursday afternoon.

The vehicle remains under construction for now as we reevaluate the artwork options.

We did learn from 3 different professional how the vehicle should have been done. Maybe Erica can do some research before airbrushing someone else’s vehicle.

If you are a reputable painter or vehicle artist and would like to use our Jeep to advertise why people should ONLY deal with experts when it comes to something this important contact editor@greatnewsmontgomery.com. We can put together a video presentation and promote your business on our homepage, it would be one great way to make something good come out of this fiasco.

The week did close on a positive note as the editor had a one on one meeting with “Reality Show Ruthie” over the weekend. She is a wonderful writer, a super admin person, and hopefully will be a permanent part of our team in the near future. She is helping GNM with an investment opportunity and we met to view and tour some potential properties.

Hopefully the guy shows up tomorrow to fix the window.

This website will also serve as a gateway to the philosophy and ideas of The Think Big Manifesto.

A NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

The movement was created by Michael Port, Leader of The Revolution and Author of The Think Big Manifesto which you can order at Amazon, B&N or Borders, as a place for us to come together to think bigger about who we are and what we offer the world.

As a founding principle, the Think Big Revolution requires the formation and augmentation of intellectual and spiritual capital.

The condition for intellectual capital is big thoughts.

The condition for spiritual capital is love.

The future of big thinking rests exclusively on the combination of both.

The advancement of and growth of intellectual capital through study and learning in action with others, will replace the isolation of small thinking.

This revolutionary combination will cut from under its feet the very foundation on which the old school small thoughts were generated and propagated.

In place of small thoughts and small thinking, we will have big thoughts and big thinking, fully self-expressed, self-actualized, collaborative contributors to society, who know no limitations and no limits.

After all, that’s what love is, too.

THINKING BIG ABOUT MYSELF AND WHAT I HAVE TO OFFER THE WORLD!!!

This book is the most realistic and honest approach to doing business that the editor has read in the last 20 years.

Superior method selling magazine service. Using other types of certs. [Ream more]

This was an open post to an associate in the magazine service industry. The post remains unrevised since written.

Check this, instead of free trip give something fairly inexpensive gift item that a customer might like in addition or in lieu of coupon package for example a bible, personalized item of some type, music type cds can be had cheaply just promise something fair like 3 gospel, or comedy or whatever high quality cd category they want worth $39.99 and all they have to pay is $4.99 shipping which is probably what it may cost you.

If they are younger you can offer free 500 idod downloads or some other nice item to try a partners system and actually get paid by the company to give away the free downloads. Its called affiliate marketing. Imagine that, the company pays you to put out their certs. Makes sense to me and I think it will make sense to business owners who are looking for every way to cut costs and improve the overall quality of service. Can you really do both?

I think so

Customer gets nice premium of new music to enjoy and discover. They say they arent traveling and gas prices are going up so they might as well enjoy some of your home time by reading great magazines like Oprah, Success, Organic Gardening, Ladies Home magazines and stuff like Rolling Stone and TEEN magazines and even Political mags like US NEWS and so much more, we are talking about magazine paradise all for your low weekly price and you can change your magazines at any time.

Adding a premium club for another level of customers who like a variety and reads alot of magazine they might pay an extra 69cents to 1 dollar per week for an extra title(s) and/or additional high value/low cost premium that could gross another payment. And if they read that much then they surely can afford one more payment for all that extra. It truly is one of the better deals around when packaged properly. Maybe they give out a gift trial membership 1 year gift to a friend for that extra payment.

Who loves magazines and more?

According to askville by Amazon the average American cable bill is about

$60-$65 per month. Magazine and music cds give more real entertainment at about 20% the cost of cable ie an immediate 80 percent savings on Entertainment.

On top of that get a certificate for 3 cd’s valued at nearly 40 dollars. Just pay the small handling cost of $4.99 added to your first months bill for your convenience. Those cd’s come to your home right away to enjoy and share with your family while your magazine order is being processed.

There you have it Real value added benefit to todays consumer with fairly minimal cost and high potential returns.

The main thing I learned from Mr. T is to hold yourself and employees to a higher standard. And if you like the quality and standard of my thought then I encourage you to do some research and figure out a product mix that works for you.

If you want me to come up and add some BIG THOUGHTS and BIG energy to an old school sales approach one day then I will give you the old school consulting rates. Trust me it would be great to try some new ideas about magazines promotions and feel a more relevant approach will keep the business profitable and worthy of significant value to you.

I know just enough to realize that I dont really know a damn thing yet. So the progressive thoughts are there. I just hope to know who likes my ideas enough to commit to incorporating them in their own business models.

———————————————————————————————

promote talk show and charity event [Ream more]

How can GreatNewsMontgomery.com (GNM) help Brown Shades Media (BSM) promote Happy Hour Talk and Bowlathon and more

Rather than continue asking questions and posting ideas that may create more questions than answers.
I will post a specific course of action that may be undertaken and explain how I and GNM may be of service to your cause.

Make a special Summertime kickoff version of “Happy hour Talk” to be held next Tuesday June 30. am immediate goal.
(fyi summer solstice is happening now , so summer has officially started.)
Your next happy hour isnt until Tuesday the 14 after the Bowlathon, perfect timing that I will explain.

This special edition will be used to promote the Inaugural “In the Shade” Community Blockparty and Bowlathon to benefit Sickle Cell Research.

Content will focus on topics like health info and positive themes of community related to the Blockparty and will generate conversation that guides the audience beyond just talk and debate into taking action and actively contributing to the community.

If I were a doctor I would describe my methods as action therapy.

In this case the action objectives may include

1. audience members committing to bowlathon or sponsoring someone to be on a team , a family, a group an employer or business sponsoring a whole team.

Why not 5 spots for 1. I can show you how to hit them over the head with value and how they get up and want MORE.

Let audience Show you the money!

2. audience committing time or other personal resources to making event happen.

Maybe have a carwash or yard cleaning service , or hold a big yard sale or whatever other honest ways there are to earn money?

Heck bring a gallon of water if thats all you can do.

Okay maybe they really cant afford money then fine how about passing out fliers, how about telling other people at the beauty parlor and barber shop about it. Tell people why its good.

If you have friends with a small business that want to advertise this is a great way to participate in the community, share fun experiences with their friends/family and promote their business at the same time.

If you have a small business and want people to know about you and your heart is bigger than your advertising budget call BSM and we work it out.

THIS CANNOT LOSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone can make small gifts or donations and through your BSM network magnify its value and produce even bigger results. Therfore every person really makes a difference.

The more relevant the cause is to the audience, the more emotion they will connect to the cause and the more likely they will be to take action.

That is what this Priceless Summertime episode of Happy Hour Talk is all about.

Sharing ideas about everyday people improving their lives and others by combining a little bit of money with larger amounts of common sense and ethics, to create a whole lotta love.
How to make show more relevant to your audience?

Here is one suggested format for the show

1 Have a guest like doctor or rep from Sickle Cell educate the audience in general. I am sure they have brochures and stuff.

I would be willing to create a dynamic one page information flyer.Even nonreaders will be attracted to it.

I can also make a short 1 or 2 minute slideshow/dynamic picture presentation on video.

2 followed by an event organizer like you or Rebecca describing what BSM is doing for cause (ie talk show, bowlathon, time commitments and more)

3. followed by an expert on inspirational marketing techniques who encourages the audience to realize self importance and whose messages hits the relevancy nail squarely on the head.
This speaker basically warms the audience for next step.

4 followed by person , ideally Angela Green asking for specific commitments from the audience and getting this thing rolling.
Yes you will ask your audience for a specific commitment that night.

Some ways I can help you immediately
-write script
-acquire audience members to attend
-produce a fun 10-15 minute presentation about money and happiness to motivate audience.
-help moderate show
-record the show and create previews or commercials for future shows
- find additional entertainment for show.

Remember that a main objective for this show is to create another wave of powerful and committed enthusiasm for blockparty as July 11th will then be 1.5 weeks away. A secondary objective is to create interest in your next show and we can talk about ways to do so effectively considering the large change in themes involved.

Hopefully other event promoting methods currently being employed continue to prosper as you will need to quickly create goodwill based output of your goodwill and real financial based input to date.

If someone gave me reasons to attend besides SickleCell and bowling,

I might cough up $50 of my hard earned dollars to participate.

HOW ABOUT something like this……..

———————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————-

BLOCKPARTY

Why not make this the first big BSM EVENT.

Its not just a genric fundraiser but something bigger!!

It is a community get together where we celebrate summer season and share a great afternoon INSIDE a cool bowling alley

So get out the summertime heat and join the summetime fun of the

Inagural BSM old school blockparty.

Along with bowling, why not have food from contributing restaurants, entertainment from talented and often unknown local artists , prizes donated by other business, kids activities and old school good music that we dont get enough of …. and oh yeah Sickle Cell benefits too.

Perhaps a talented unknown will be given a shot to perform like another popular Montgomery born, Chicago raised and then later world-respected entertainer.

Nathaniel Adams Cole was born on Saint Patricks Day 1919. He later was given his flashy moniker and today we remember the unforgettable

Lil Wayne shows love at bowling birthdayparty

Angela Green and Rebecca Barlow commit 24/7 to bettering important things in their lives just like these people did:

taken during great migration. A major benefactor of their commitment is the community as a whole.
Think of yourselves as human super heroines who kick things up by donning

BrownShades and activating Community Vision to inspire your followers to greater heights in giving. I am not an excellent illustrator so get someone else to draw your comics.

Why not do everything possible to brand BROWN SHADES MEDIA as experts on creating high value events for end users and sponsors.

On a tight budget for those on a tight budget.

You will encourage people to help the community and they think of it as just having fun.

THIS IS HOW I SELL AND PROMOTE

by Thinking BIG like Michael Port

and will apply similar concepts to our own and co-created GNM events and promotions.

Small thinking passivists wonder “how to do all this AND still give the entire $50 to charity.”
Sound too good to be true or “How in the world can all this happen in less than 3 weeks?”

Big thinking activists know it can happen because it has already been conceived and only requires committed action of like minded activists to achieve.
BIG Thinking activists make commitments and deliver on those commitments.

GMN can also contribute by

-Finding food vendors to donate food and drink
-Finding performers who will perform at event and even construct and produce up to a 20 minute talent showcasing of at least 3 different performers!!!
-Sharing my visualizations to help you quickly create marketing paraphernalia like fliers and brochures.
-I can show you how to create additional streams of income within this event.
-Showing you ways to maximize efforts that goes way beyond today.

Maybe you would like to participate in a general promoting Montgomery campaign that I am working on.

Your background in journalism would be a major benefit and my project could mesh with your current efforts so as not to create more cumbersome task oriented work but rather to create educational and inspiring byproducts of your main work.

I will make it relevant to your goals and objectives!!

This is my open resume and offer to you right now

What can I do for Brown?

It also functions as our open resume from Great News Montgomery to those they serve.

Now that you all have an idea of what talents and commitments are at your disposal,

Food and Entertainment are hardly ever a bad idea to get people to like you and to associate your company with good time. Especially food and entertainment obtained at low price or better yet no money cost?

What about ways to get your sponsors to happily contribute money and product/service to event?

Maybe work a deal with an up and coming or current Dragon cc entertainer. Give them a bonus 5 minute of so preview and get to know kind of thing.Increase value of HappyHourTalk and get potential advertisers/sponsors to recognize the real value of your show to community?

How to use this event to build towards bigger venues and productions.

I promise that I can type for another hour straight and not even be tripping.

I can give answers to any question I have talked about so far.

some more later

Initial thoughts analyzing promotion [Ream more]

Remember this is written as things I ask myself if I were in your perceived shoes if you will.

Wow its less than 3 weeks to go.

What financial commitments have been made to us ?

and by us?

What info do I want community to get and how will I deliver that message?

How much to break even? if not already there

Monetary Goal or Goal Based on other number.

Where will the Bowlathan commitments come from

What is a bowlathon? 2 games and shoe rental or is it more.

If so then what is it and why does audience feel it is fair.

Is it worth $50? Are people ready to commit to $50. Yes they came off some can goods and a little cash for happy hour talk for which that alone is commendable based on my experiences with your target audience.

But will they commit $50 right now, for some in your market it is chump change for others it could be a cable bill or grocery trip.

Possible good news created by recession is maybe they have some extra discretionary funds availabe because they cant take a big family summer vacation because the gas cost to go round trip to disney world is about 900 round trip miles/avg family suv mileage 20=approximate 45 gallons x 2.50 per gallon=$112 gas alone.

You know Mickey is Gonna Get Paid. M I C K E Y no M O N E Y. sing along kids

and the orlando area continues to gouge motorists with their toll roads.

How can I improve the perceived value to consumer?

How can I improve the real value to the consumer through added feature that may be extra product or service or tangible item such that $50 to participate becomes a bargain that they gladly pay?

These are just some things that must run through your head

Ill be back later.
